Florian Krewer’s arresting images have earned him yet another solo show, this time at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris.

How many internationally successful German painters are there who live and work in the Bronx?

A firm answer to that question is unclear, but there is at least one: Florian Krewer, whose intriguing compositions have earned him solo museum exhibitions, including a current one at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, “Florian Krewer: woven thin,” on view until Jan. 4 — a prime slot for a young painter.

The 39-year-old Krewer — his friends call him Flo — is a bundle of contradictions. He is a sensitive soul who spends a lot of time alone, and also a guy covered in tattoos who likes to go clubbing with friends. A life of not exactly belonging to traditional categories has resulted in some arresting images.

“I feel most comfortable in this in-between space, and I think that’s why my figures are floating a little bit,” Krewer said in mid-August, standing in his paint-strewn studio in the Hunts Point neighborhood of the Bronx, a few steps from the Bruckner Expressway. He lives in the Melrose section of the borough and rides his bike to his studio.
